HEALTH CAMP REPORT: AUGUST 2004
On 1st august 2004, we conducted our first health camp as part of our rural health education and awareness programme (RHEAP) to screen for
major preventable diseases like Diabetes and Hypertension, which are becoming epidemics in our country. About
80-100 patients visited our health camp. 11% of the patients were found to be diabetic and 8% of the patients were hypertensive.
Around 30 patients with diabetes, hypertension, valvular heart disease, coronary heart disease, cataract, stricture urethra, sero-negative arthritis were found and referred to tertiary care centre.
A girl child aged 3yrs was identified as a case of Protein Energy Malnutrition and
treatment plans were sorted out and help initiated. Changing health habits with increasing fat intake with decrease in protein and fibre diet
were identified in rural population.Dietary changes were advised. Literate people were given a booklet explaining healthy
diet, diseases and their complications in simple language. It was found that diseases that were earlier thought to be urban are now making inroads in to rural areas.
We would like to conclude that in view of the above scenario there is a thought to adopt a village and make it in to a model one. Any suggestions on this are welcome.
