Tsunami rewrote the fate of millions and is going to be very long time before normality returns to these areas. Under normal circumstances, dealing with natural disasters would not have been our work but the enormity of this overwhelming situation compelled us to act this time. Our organisation was not trained to do relief operations or building infra structure. However we did our best in our area of expertise.

Some of our relief operations include

  • Shipment of 4 cartons of clothes and required medicines and equipments to Andamans. We liaised with personnel involved in the relief operations and were able to respond to their specific needs.

  • We conducted health camp at cuddalore, Tamilnadu to screen for communicable diseases.

  • We also distributed rice and some essential items to 150 affected families in the same area

  • We also participated in a health camp conducted by other organisations to provide medical support at Kasimedu,Tamilnadu.

  • At best we tried to make sure that the help ends up in the right place and the work done by our president and Treasurer is much appreciated.

Here is the personal note from Rengasamy

There are lots and lots of materials coming in especially clothes, bed sheets, food materials etc. Yet some of the affected areas have not received any of the supplies. This is mainly because of the problems with the infrastructure of our country. For example, Cuddalore's Collector is doing a fantastic job, but it is a pity that he has to accompany all the visiting VIPs which would take up most of his time. And then again- middlemen, t- it goes on.

Anything more would be beyond our scope both financally and structurally. If we can make a difference in the lives of even a few individuals, I believe the purpose would be served. There are giant organisations like Red Cross, UNICEF, World Bank etc and the volume of money they raise makes a meaningful change in rebuilding the infrastructure. Otherwise our 'job description' should be as agreed before and we shall proceed with accomplishing our tiny, yet, more realistic jobs. As Mother Theresa said, "We cannot do great things, but we can do small things with great love".

I would like to thank all who stood by us in our effort.
